It wasn’t exactly the opening night Miami hoped for.

The RedHawks were shut out, 3-0 at Northern Michigan on Friday in the teams’ first game of the season.
The Wildcats won just three games in 2025-26 and were the worst offensive team in Division I, averaging just 1.65 goals.
Miami was without three of its top players: David Deputy, Vladislav Lukashevich and Tim Runtso, and did outshoot Northern Michigan, 30-19.
The effort was there for the RedHawks, but they not only failed to score in over 14 minutes of power play time, MU surrendered a shorthanded goal.
Special teams killed the RedHawks, as Northern Michigan scored both of its other goals on the power play.
The teams wrap up their weekend series at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.
Full disclosure: VFG was traveling and unable to watch the game, so we’ll do much more extensive coverage for future games this season.
