Within 48 hours of Anthony Noreen being announced as Miami’s head coach, the RedHawks added a commit from Noreen’s USHL team and a grad transfer.

Both should compete for significant ice time this fall.

Quinnipiac senior forward Christophe Fillion committed to Miami after spending four seasons with the Bobcats and winning a national championship in 2022-23.

Fillion, who will be a graduate senior, went 12-7-19 this season and has 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 125 collegiate games.

Defenseman Shaun McEwen, previously committed to Massachusetts, switched to Miami following Noreen’s hiring.

McEwen has played 131 USHL games, all under Noreen at Tri-City, based in Kearney, Neb.

The Massachusetts native is 2-14-16, tied for second on the Storm in defenseman assists and should be a welcome addition to a Miami team that has lost three blueliners to the transfer portal.

That third RedHawks D-man to bolt is sophomore Axel Kumlin, a member of the Dubuque Class of 2022 who went 2-9-11 in 2023-24 and dressed for 66 of Miami’s 72 games the past two seasons.

Noreen remains head coach of Tri-City through the final two weeks of the regular season and the playoffs.

With a supercharged portal heating up, that seems like a potentially missed recruiting opportunity, but Miami has still managed to add two quality skaters this week.

And none of the other high-end RedHawks allegedly considering a transfer have done so since Noreen’s hiring.
