Nine new players will suit up for Miami this fall, including eight freshmen, according to the 2020-21 roster posted on the team’s web site.
Five of the first-year RedHawks are forwards. One goalie and three defensemen will also debut for Miami.
Like last season, the RedHawks’ initial roster consists of 27 players, but MU currently has 14 forwards listed and 10 defensemen, as opposed to 2019-20 when the team was comprised of 15 forwards and nine blueliners. Miami will again field three goalies.
Newcomers up front are Michael Holland, Joe Cassetti, Brian Silver, Matthew Barbolini and Caleb Rule. Cassetti and Rule are transfers and will have to sit out the early part of the season since they dressed for their respective NCAA teams for a handful of games in 2019-20 prior to leaving their former schools.
Rule is listed as a sophomore, Cassetti a freshman.
The puck will not drop for 3 1/2 months so the roster is still subject to change and defensemen can always play up front, but with Rule and Cassetti ineligible the first portion of 2020-21, that leaves just 12 eligible forwards to open the campaign.
On the back end, Robby Drazner, Hampus Rydqvist and Dylan Moulton are all freshmen-to-be.
Swedish-born Ludvig Persson is the RedHawks’ newest netminder.
Three skaters from 2019-20 are not on next season’s roster in addition to the six departed seniors: Forwards Christian Mohs, Noah Jordan and Brian Hawkinson.
Mohs redshirted his first season and graduated with a year of eligibility remaining, and Jordan and Hawkinson were scratched down the stretch run last season.
