If October is an indicator, Kiefer Sherwood is poised for a career year.

The Vancouver right wing has scored six goals in 11 games to open the season, including the overtime game winner to cap off a two-goal performance in a 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Oct. 26.

Sherwood obliterated the NHL’s all-time hits record with 462 last season, leading the league by 156. The previous record of 383 was held by former Nashville teammate Jeremy Lauzon.

Sherwood already has tallied 50 hits in 2025-26, second in the NHL by three to Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin. In 276 NHL games, he has racked up 49 goals and 55 assists for 104 points, including a career-best 19 tallies and 40 points last season.

Some early-season ProHawks’ recent highlights:

NHL: Calgary forward Blake Coleman is 5-1-6 to start the season, including three goals and an assist in a pair of games at Winnipeg and vs. the New York Rangers Oct. 24 and 26.

Coleman has 155 career goals, fourth-most on Miami’s all-time leaderboard behind only Dan Boyle, Bryan Savage and Reilly Smith.

— Speaking of Smith, his first goal of 2025-26 was an overtime game-winner for Vegas at San Jose on Oct. 9. Smith the all-time goals leader among former Miamians with 227.

AHL: Toronto’s Matthew Barbolini picked up an assist in each of the Marlies’ first three games this season. Barbolini joined Toronto after the 2023-24 Miami season and went 4-10-14 in his first full campaign with the Marlies last year.

Red Savage earned a spot on Rochester, and he dished for an assist in his first AHL game and scored in his second.

Curtis McKenzie is in his 10th season with the Texas Stars and his 13th campaign in this league overall and is 0-1-1 in six games. He has played 659 AHL games and has 195 goals and 287 assists for 482 points, and he also logged 99 NHL games, going 10-13-23 — all with Dallas.

Louie Belpedio signed a two-year contract with the Washington Capitals and has already notched a helper in four games for Hershey. This is his ninth season in this league, and he has in 16 NHL games between Minnesota and Philadelphia, Belpedio racked up two goals and four assists.

— After three seasons in the ECHL, Derek Daschke is getting a promotion. Daschke signed with Vancouver affiliate Abbotsford in July, and he has played two games with Canucks already.

ECHL: At age 36, Justin Vaive has shown he can still find the net. He scored twice in Cincinnati’s season opener on Oct. 18 and netted the game winner in a 3-1 victory over Fort Wayne on Oct. 24.

After just three games with Kalamazoo, Robby Drazner was called up to AHL Abbotsford. Drazner played four seasons with Miami and transferred for his graduate senior year to Western Michigan, where he won a national championship last season.

SPHL: Huntsville’s Austin Alger was named the league’s player of the week after recording the league’s first hat trick of the season in a five-point game vs. Pensacola. He is 5-3-8 in four games and leads the league in goals and points.

Europe: In his second season in Europe, Austin Czarnik leads Lausanne of the top Swiss league in assists (17) and points (23). Czarnik has played 205 NHL games, recording 18 goals and 33 helpers with five teams.

— In his first season in the DEL (German league — one of the top leagues in Europe), Riley Barber is tops on his Ingolstadt team in goals (11) and points (20). Barber has played 16 games in the NHL.

— Goalie Ludvig Persson has a pair of shutouts in his first seven starts with Vaxjo of the top Swedish league.

He has a 2.15 goals-against average.

— Defenseman Will Weber is in his sixth season with Schwennigen and his eighth campaign overall in the DEL.

Weber, a shut-down defenseman, scored his 11th career goal in this league earlier this season.
