Miami is hosting a home series for the first time in 41 days, matching the amount of time since Omaha has played a true road game.

Omaha

The Mavericks have only skated in six games on hostile campuses this season are just 2-4 in those contests.

But UNO is coming off a sweep of Colorado College last weekend and enters this weekend having won 4 of 5.

VFG takes a look at the upcoming series:

WHO: Omaha Mavericks (10-10) at Miami RedHawks (3-15-2).

WHERE: Cady Arena (3,049), Oxford, Ohio.

WHEN: Friday and Saturday — 7:05 p.m.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Tied, 29-29-7.

VIDEO STREAMING: NCHC.tv ($).

OMAHA RADIO: Both nights — KOIL-AM (1290), Omaha, Neb.

MIAMI RADIO: Friday — WKBV-AM (1450), Richmond, Ind.; Saturday — WMOH-AM (1450), Hamilton, Ohio. Greg Waddell (PxP) and Drew Davis (color) both nights.

NOTES: When these teams met in Omaha eight weeks ago, the Mavericks disposed of Miami fairly easily, 3-0 and 8-1, although Miami played a competitive game in the opener.

The flipping of the calendar seems to have rejuvenated Omaha’s offense, as the Mavericks have scored 14 goals in four 2025 games.

Graduate senior Sam Stange has scored nine goals and Zach Urdahl has eight despite missing three games.

And fifth-year UNO forward Jimmy Glynn has thrived against Miami, scoring five of his 22 career goals in 12 career games vs. the RedHawks.

But stellar goaltending continues to this program’s 2024-25 headline to this point.

Slovakian-born Simon Latkoczy has a .932 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.32, including a shutout. And freshman Kevin Reidler has been excellent in his rookie season, posting a 2.40 GAA and .926 save percentage in limited action (good chance he starts a game this weekend).

That makes the challenge for Miami even more harrowing, as the RedHawks have scored just nine goals during their current eight-game losing streak vs. UNO.

MU’s struggles over the past few seasons has been especially woeful starting the calendar year, as the RedHawks are 1-24-2 (.074) in their last 27 January games.

Want a positive spin? Miami hasn’t lost on Jan. 17 in 22 years.

The RedHawks tied North Dakota in 2020 as well as Omaha in 2014, both at home and beat Michigan State at Cady Arena in 2009 and won at Ferris State in 2004.

Western Michigan was the last team to beat MU on this date, topping the RedHawks, 3-2 in 2003.
