Miami’s returning goaltenders have certainly racked up the class letters.

But the RedHawks’ two senior netminders, boasting four years of Division I experience each, have notched just one collegiate win apiece.

Enter Bruno Bruveris, the two-year starting goalie for USHL Cedar Rapids who should immediately compete for the starting job.

The Miami coaching staff refused to be interviewed for this and subsequent stories and has instructed its staff to block VFTG from all future player interview requests.

VFTG takes a look at the goaltenders in Part IV of our 2023-24 Miami Preview.

WHO’S BACK: Srs. (2) – Logan Neaton, Carter McPhail.

WHO’S GONE: Ludvig Persson (transferred).

WHO’S NEW (previous team in parentheses): Bruno Bruveris (Cedar Rapids, USHL).

ANALYSIS: Miami has plenty of competition for its 12-13 forward spots and 6-7 defenseman slots, but its most consequential internal battle is in net.

Three-year RedHawks starter Ludvig Persson unexpectedly transferred to North Dakota this spring, leaving a void between the pipes.

Bruveris and Logan Neaton will likely share the net to some degree early in the season.

Bruveris was a fan favorite for his energy in Cedar Rapids, and he finished 23-16 with four shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against average and an .897 save percentage that improved significantly down the stretch.

He carried that momentum into the playoffs, finishing the postseason with a 2.46 GAA and a save percentage of .906.

Neaton, a 2019 Winnipeg selection and the lone NHL draftee on the team, has logged 16 games the past two seasons with Miami after transferring from UMass-Lowell.

The fifth-year senior is 1-12 in his NCAA career and has never played more than nine games in a season, but he finished with a respectable .900 save percentage in five 2022-23 appearances.

He injured his knee in early January of 2022 and missed the balance of that campaign and was Persson’s backup last season.

Neaton saw the ice just six times in his two seasons with the Minutemen.

Carter McPhail, a graduate senior and Ferris State transfer, is in his second season with the RedHawks and did not play in 2022-23.

He appeared in two games for the Bulldogs in 2021-22 and recorded a .920 save percentage and a 2.74 GAA in a small sample size. McPhail is 1-7 in four seasons, largely serving as FSU’s third netminder.
